The pupils were divided into three groups called Swallows, Finches and Robins.
They collected willow sticks, mud, straw, leaves and moss etc from the school grounds to make their own birds’ nests.
They used the “Wattle and Dab” system. First the pupils wound the young willow sticks into a nest shape. This was quite difficult. They made sure that the nests had a firm base. Them they mixed mud with straw and lined the inside of the nest with this mixture. After that they made the insides of the nests cosy by lining them with moss.
We all chipped in and got very dirty!
