We watched a video which explained what an artefact was and the job of the archaeologists in finding theses artefacts including surveying the area, digging it up and then sending theses finds to the lab for further investigation. The pupils in the junior room became archaeologists for a day. The pupils worked in groups. Each group received a container of sand which contained various items from a particular event. The children recorded each item they found and examined it using magnifying glasses. After finding all the clues the children had to decide what events the items were from.
