We were invited to the State Ceremonial Event at Collins Barracks on Monday 9th May. This Open Day started at 10:30am, there was a Military Equipment Display outside where the pupils got to get into army jeeps, hold real army guns, sit on police motorbikes, see a military band play. They even got into a portable meeting centre (full of computers, a large tv monitor and office centre table), the soldier explained how it compacts down to a very neat size to be moved from place to place.
Unfortunately is was a really wet day but it did not stop us seeing all the action, including a group of soldiers getting in line and marching away. I believe some pupils found it very impressionable and they went home with the idea of the army being their future in 8-10 years.
We really, really enjoyed the chips we had on the way home, they really filled us up and most definitely warmed us up!!
