Story “First Flight”

This week the Senior room read the story of First Flight in English class. This was a very special story to their teacher as it was also in her English reader when she was their age. It is a timeless story by Liam O’Flaherty about a young seagull, who has to take the first step to overcome his fear.  The story has a deeper meaning for us; that every journey no matter how long or how difficult it is, always starts with the first step.  We, like the seagull are nervous about new experiences. We need to be motivated to take those first steps and we know that those who love us are near and encouraging us.  For their teacher, it was lovely to re-read and experience this story again and for the pupils to read it for the first time and hear their views on it.
