9-13th Feb : This is Friendship Week Amnesty International : Ireland’s celebration of friendship, solidarity and human rights. We will be exploring friendship in the school, in the community and the wider world. What is a friend? Whyis it important to be a good friend? How can we stand up for others? The senior room will further the topic by learning about refugees and Human rights. We are also selling bracelets for €2 which can be purchased from the office.

9-13th Feb : Engineer Week : The pupils will learn about engineers, what jobs they do. We will look at examples of engineering in the classroom, the school and the locality. This week we will also be doing some electricity experiments. We hope to get an engineer out to visit the school. If not their visit will be later in the year.
9-13th Feb : Internet Safety Day “My Selfie – Primary Anti-Cyber Bullying” : My Selfie – Webwise Primary Anti-Cyber Bullying teaches about bullying on the internet, it gives the children opportunities to empathise with those effected, to understand the emotions behind it and to empower them to take a stand. This very much links in with our Friendship Week.
Sat 14th Feb : Valentine’s Day : The pupils will make crafts/cards for Valentine’s Day
17th Feb : Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) : We will have pancakes at school. If any pupils have allergies or food intolerances, please let the school know prior to the day.
19th -20th Feb : Half Term : (School closed Thursday and Friday)
Sowing Seeds : Once the days get warmer the pupils will be planting seeds in our vegetable patches. We will have a selection of vegetables, salads and edible flowers they are designed to fit in with the school timetable. These seeds can be sown and harvested before the summer holidays and some will be ready for September 2015 but will need very little maintenance over the summer months. We hope to plant beetroot, chard, lettuce, radish, salad, spinach, turnip and edible flowers like Calendula and Nasturtium.
23rd -27th Week of Parent Teacher Meetings : Days and times of meetings will to be sorted out soon
5th March : World Book Day : Over the last 18 years World Book Day has become firmly established as Ireland’s biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading. There will be book vouchers for the pupils which they can use in participating bookshops and they can also use the vouchers against books in the school book magazines which will be issued shortly.
Sunday 15th March : Mothering Sunday : Mothering Sunday, sometimes known as Mother’s Day, is held on the fourth Sunday of Lent.. Mothering Sunday is a celebration of motherhood.
Tuesday 17th March : St Patrick’s Day (School closed) : The pupils will learn about our national saint, Saint Patrick. They will make some crafts/cards etc
27th March : Easter Egg Hunt (school closes for 2 weeks) : The pupils will have an Easter Egg Hunt in the grounds of the school. School finishes for all pupils at 3:10pm
Chess Classes : The senior pupils are enjoying their chess classes with David. They are learning new skills/tactics and new vocabulary like “a fork”, “a skewer” and “a castle”. They are also learning the value of every piece of chess on the board. He hopes soon to start a mini tournament.
