“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”
― Albert Einstein
This year we are focusing on stories in our new Literacy Plan. Classes further up the school are enjoying novel reading and the 3 youngest classes are following a scheme of learning about our fairy tales.
Fairy tales are very important as they encourage discussion and develop a child’s imagination. They teach morals and lessons and show kids how to handle problems. They teach critical thinking skills and teach an understanding of the basics of a story — setting, characters, and plot as well as the difference between fiction and non-fiction.
Our first story we looked at was “Goldilocks and the Three Little Bears”, the pupils really enjoyed the crafts section.
