We looked at 13 trees in our school area. Some were in the school grounds while others were only a short distance up the road. the children learned about the leaves, the buds and why the trees are important to us, for example the ash tree is important because it is the wood used for making hurley sticks, It was lovely to see the flower on the horse chestnut.
The trees we looked are were : ash, elder, alder, horse chestnut, sycamore, white-thorn, blackthorn, beech, apple, cherry blossom, willow, laurel and rhododendron. The pupils drew sketches of each tree and labelled them.
