Day 2 of Maths Week saw us making pumpkin soup. This incorporated many areas of the maths curriculum; weight, shapes, sizes, ratio and time, while having fun at the same time.
Annette, a parent of two girls in the school, came into the school to show us how to make pumpkin soup. She also brought in three examples of pumpkin, one very small, one very large and one crossed with a courgette.
First the ingredients were prepared, the pupils from the oldest to the youngest chopped up onions, carrots, pumpkin and potatoes. Then the onions were sautéed with the pumpkin. After that, the rest of the veg were added, including the finely grated ginger. Vegetable stock was added and the soup was seasoned with salt and pepper. Then it was brought to the boil and then simmered for 30mins. Next step was to add some coconut milk and then puree the soup. To garnish, a drizzle of cream was added to the individual bowls of soup.
The soup was delicious and all thanked Annette for a great morning.
